Bankable has been based on Level39’s 42nd floor, High Growth Space: 42, since 2014. In the five years since, it has multiplied its staff size by 10, and in 2018 began expanding globally. Bankable’s ‘Banking as a Service’ API platform enables financial institutions, corporations and fintech entrepreneurs to bring quickly bring to market highly differentiated payment solutions, such as digital banking, e-wallets and payment card programmes. The company’s growth has been helped by being surrounded by potential clients at Canary Wharf. Social events bring people together, and being based on the 42nd floor means they can even make elevator pitches on the way up to their offices!
All start-ups need a lot of support – from funding and advice to training and investment opportunities. But there are other aspects that often get overlooked. Start-ups can be hugely stressful, with long hours, insecurity and little prospect of any earnings for two years. Even the most innovative and driven entrepreneurs can have times when they question themselves.
We recognise that giving start-ups our full support can go beyond the physical. In 2018, Level39 began working closely with the Canary Wharf chaplaincy team to give Level39 members access to more all-embracing support. The team is available to support entrepreneurs quickly, ensuring Level39 is more than just a place to build companies – it’s also a space for entrepreneurs to find mental and emotional balance.
Data problem solvers Datatonic have been based at Level39 for around four years, but in the last 12 months their business has really taken off. From a handful of people at the end of 2017 they have grown to more than 25 today – and have recently been awarded Google Cloud’s EMEA Services Partner of the Year 2018! Although it’s not the first time Datatonic have won a Google award, this one is special, as Chief Operations Officer, Lennert Acke, explains. “This award recognises the outstanding impact and success we have delivered for Google’s cloud customers. This is a tremendous achievement for us and we are looking forward to continue to build on that success”.
The company specialises in the retail, media, telecoms and financial services sectors, working with clients to create value from their data using machine learning, and has seen business grow as more companies choose cloud for their computing services.
“Being at Level39 offers big advantages”, says Lennert. “Canary Wharf is a prestigious location, and that really helps attract talent. We’re right in the middle of the financial sector, a burgeoning market for us, and Level39 understand the needs of companies as they grow – they offer us a fantastic ecosystem in which we can operate. And the views are great!”
